- Understand the weather
- Make sure you know what the forecast is like before you go out (as
it can be changable!). WindGuru
is a great site that gives specific information for Malahide Estuary
- Know your limits and if in doubt, ask a professional (most instructors
/ schools are happy to give advice)
- Let someone know where you're going and when you'll be back. Don't windsurf
alone - its a lot more fun with others anyway and safer that way. Accidents
happen. Support is good!
- Get some training
- As with everything else, there are tips and tricks that can help you
develop more quickly than when you're trying to figure it out yourself
- Check your equipment
- It's not always wise to buy the cheapest equipment you can find. If
you're not sure, ask advice from an experienced windsurfer. Make sure
the equipment is of good quality and suitable to your level. Have the
right clothing for the conditions i.e. winter wetsuits, harness, buoyancy
aids

by the Irish
Water Safety.
